The Shapers Saga

A story of aliens, adventure, and Family.

Shaper Origin

The world was a different place when I was a kid, no cell phones, internet was so new that a lot of people never heard of it and kids lived off of our imagination.  I was young and loved doing role play with close friends and family.  There was no dice or books for the role play I did, just own our adventures with characters from TV shows, cartoons, movies and comics that we loved to pretend to be.  Through those games I got to be the ThunderCats, Ghostbusters, Care Bears and of course the Ninja Turtles.  This was my favorite form of entertainment, being creative and acting.  So much so that I introduced this form of Role Play to a group online in 1997.

In 1991 I was doing one of these role plays, where characters I was pretending to be got some shape shifting powers during a story arch.  I was so amused by these powers that I started to work out my own characters, something we did often.  I came up with four brothers and then built on their family, their history and their abilities.  I thought about doing a comic book based on them, and would draw these characters often.  My first time bringing them out of the role play was for a school science project in 7th grade, the teacher loved the story I did and I kept using them for my science reports all the way through graduation.
In 1996 I wrote my first story that I would share on the internet with these characters, a fanfiction called “The Shape of a Turtle”.  It was a crossover with the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, having the Turtles meet my characters.  As people seemed to like the story, I added the Shapers to an online role play I was part of.  Where the world of the Shapers grew so much more with a full history of their planet and many more characters.  It was my friends from the role play that started to ask me to write books for the Shapers.

After some failed attempts, I finally learned from watching the commentary on the Back to the Futures DVD set to make a timeline for the books before writing the story.  This concept has worked and the Shapers Saga is finally ready to be shared.

About Author

My name is Michele Ivey, I am a creative writer known for @CowabungaCorner and can be seen on VH1’s “Totally Obsessed”, Netflix’s “Toys that Made Us” and the “Turtle Power Documentary” due to my passion for Viacom’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.  Growing up in Ferndale, Michigan I found myself hooked to fictional stories through cartoons, comics and movies.  Embracing those passions I got into martial arts, traveled the country, and have shared my arts and experiences with large audiences through different events and media.

I love entertainment from toys, cartoons, movies to live theater and concerts. Always looking into the new and remembering the old. My favorite form of entertainment is cartoons and anime. From Avatar the Last Air Bender to Fullmetal Alchemist. I am an animation fan. I like original stories, with strong character building for both the good and the bad guys. And I enjoy seeing others share their passion as well.

It took awhile for me to be confident with my writing skills to publish the Shaper story, as I have dyslexia.  Spelling and reading has been a challenge for me all through life.  With the help of friends I have been inspired to move forward with this dream.  This is the beginning of a new adventure that I wish to share with others as the Shaper Saga will continue.
